That brilliant, subtle shift from nostalgic Midwestern liminality straight into an absolute nightmare of a glitching 90s childhood completely caught me off guard. Love it ✨
I felt Indiana in this piece. I have been a few times and this piece captured the soul of that very strange landscape. (I just had to see Fairmount with my own eyes and James Dean’s soul lingers there something fierce).
Went to Christian college in IN - not a good experience😬 You’re spot on regarding several things. I think one thing I notice in small towns is that people physically age. However, if they’ve never left the area, it’s like they’ve not changed internally. I feel like you captured that in the non-aging. Anx don’t mess with their contentment. It doesn’t matter what it takes to keep the bubbles intact.
Of course the kid’s name is Miller🤣 Haven’t seen the tv show, but will now look it up.
Me too. Also “Are You Afraid of the Dark.” I've always wanted to start my own Midnight Society of storytellers. People who actually get together over a fire and read their stories out loud.
The water tower blinking wetly... I was fine with popcorn floats and weird nostalgia, but a municipal eye watching everyone like it pays property tax is a lot.
This is literally material for a novella.
So fucking cool.
It inspired me to write about the haunted house I grew up in.
Maybe I will someday.
In any case, loved it.
I would love to read about your haunted house!
And thank you!!
There's so much going on here and I have questions. Can she get out again? Is the job really there or is this all a trap?
Did she ever really leave or was it all a dream? 😜

Thank you so much! That is wonderful to hear!
Was wonderful to read!
The missing front tooth on the bicycle ghost did more for me than the whole setup. One detail in the wrong tense and the town tilts.
Thank you!!
I do remember Eerie, Indiana. This… this was very that. Great stuff!
Thank you!!!
My mind immediately went 🎶Eerie, Indiana, eerie Indiana, eerie Indiana, my home creepy home🎶 🤣 Now to read the piece….
I've been singing it in my head for days. 🤣🤣
Well, can we switch it to: With a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for pool!
👐That stands for pool👐

The show is great. I think they have it on Prime. Which college in IN?
Grace. Actually did a podcast about what happened there…
Really enjoyed this!
Thank you for reading!
I adore this. Such a deeply unnerving way to twist small town Americana!
I LOVE Eerie Indiana. I still watch it some Saturday mornings. It was one of the inspirations for my "Funcanny Valley" universe
It was such a good show. And formative for me lol.
Me too. Also “Are You Afraid of the Dark.” I've always wanted to start my own Midnight Society of storytellers. People who actually get together over a fire and read their stories out loud.
That's an amazing show too. Speaking of Midnight Societies, have you seen The Midnight Club on Netflix? It's sooo good.
Oh, I haven't! I don't have any of the streaming services- except Prime because of the free delivery 😂 That's how I watch Eerie Indiana
I think you'd probably love it.
I'll def put it on my list. I don't have it, not for any snobby reasons, just because I'm poor 😂
The water tower blinking wetly... I was fine with popcorn floats and weird nostalgia, but a municipal eye watching everyone like it pays property tax is a lot.
🤣🤣🤣 sorry, dear 👁️
There are truckers who call Indiana, the bungholes of America.😂
🤣
I’m such a sucker for good horror. And I love this!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!
Love this! ❤️
Thank you, Cory! ❤️
I thought I was the only person in the world who still remembers the Tupperware episode of Eerie, Indiana. Loved this story.
Omg you remember it too??? It was life-changing. 😆
Such an interesting show!
